Portrait Studies in Oil of Everyday People
These portraits and figures are painted from live models with three to six hour poses. I will be teaching a three day portrait and figure workshop through the Santa Rosa Junior College Community Education this summer. Three Sunday classes at the S.R.J.C. November 5-19, from 10 am-1:30. These are for fun and learning; no grades. Easels and models provided. You will learn the basics of proportion, flesh color mixing, and how to paint portraits and the quick gesture figures of a clothed model. These studies are examples of the work I am doing in a 3 hour session and more completed paintings than you will be able to accomplish in the class, so be patient and enjoy the process. We will work on quick studies as well as up to two hour studies (not finished). The best way to improve your paintings is to create lots of studies and practice, practice, practice. This classes will give you the tools to improve your painting. Finished work requires more time and this class will help you understand what you need to know to paint. Drawing skills are greatly encouraged for anyone learning to paint the portrait and figure. Some drawing and painting experience is helpful for these classes. I am an encouraging instructor and will do demonstrations, lecture and help you one on one to improve your skills.
